Just read an interesting request to the FB community on wearable fitness monitors. I thought I'd distal the comments here.
Most wearables won't help with strength training but the (currently in pre-order) Push attempts to handle this problem using accelerometers plus workout info (e.g. weights used, etc).
Similar (identical?) is Atlas (currently in pre-order) which also attempts to guess exercise and reps, etc.
Withings has two interesting devices, the Pulse 02 and the Blood Pressure Monitor. The Pulse 02 seems to counts steps and has heart rate and blood O2 plus a run tracker (no GPS). The Blood Pressure Monitor is an EU and FDA approved device.
fitbit produces the One and the Flex currently.
Polar makes a wide variety of nice looking products including the Polar Loop at the low end and the V800 at the high end.
Jawbone makes the Up and Up24.
Basis makes the Basis B1.
Pebble may be usable as such.
